Doctors make horror discovery inside woman's ear after she suddenly goes deaf

Horrifying footage has captured the moment a made a grim discovery as he tried to remove wax from a patient’s ear.

The patient went to see -based "wax whisperer" Dr Neel Raithatha after having issues hearing – but during a routine wax removal, Dr Neel noticed something unusual blocking the ear canal. In footage of him talking through the wax extraction, he said: “As I began removing the ear wax, I noticed a strange black 'object' embedded inside."

"It turns out it wasn't just wax blocking the ear canal. He said: “I realised it was a , stuck in the earwax.” The beetle was later identified as a Wheat Weevil, which managed to crawl inside the ear canal, get trapped and die.

The patient "had no idea" the critter was living inside their ear since, Dr Neel said. Earwax is usually supposed to repel insects due to its acidic nature, but in this case, it allowed the beetle to get stuck.

Using specialist tools, Dr Neel was able to remove the excess wax and the dead beetle. He added: “The patient had no idea or inclination that a beetle had crawled inside his ear." He admitted to using an online google tool to find find out what exactly the beetle was. He said: "I even used Lens to identify the type of beetle, and it was a Wheat Weevil.

"Yes, the patient was perfectly normal afterwards but other than being slightly worried that another beetle may try to crawl into his ear at night."

While Dr Neel’s patient was completely unaware of the beetle living in their ear, there are a few signs to look out for when bugs enter the ear. A buzzing sound or a crawling sensation may indicate that an insect has entered your ear, but in some cases, bugs can crawl into the ear without a person knowing – and can later bring on pain and discomfort.

Common bug in the ear symptoms include:

• Hearing loss

• Infection

• Vestibular complaints (relating to issues with motion, head position, and spatial orientation, which could affect balance and vision.)

• The sensation that a foreign object is inside your ear, causing unusual sounds, swelling, or inflammation.
