Srinagar in spring: Quiet mornings, serene stay and a slice of stillness

Send Push

We landed in Srinagar with no big agenda — just a desire to slow down. The city, waking up to spring, felt like it had pressed pause too. There was still snow on the distant peaks, but the orchards were beginning to bloom, and every corner seemed washed in golden light.

Tucked away on the outskirts, Rah Bagh became our home for the week — a peaceful Alpine-style retreat nestled amidst apple trees and sprawling gardens, with the Zabarwaan mountains rising quietly behind. It didn’t feel like a hotel. More like a place someone built with love.

Our pine-clad Garden Cottage came with its own sit-out and views of the rose garden and a small waterfall. Mornings were slow and comforting — hot kahwah, chirping birds, and no rush to be anywhere. There was something deeply grounding about it all.

We explored the surroundings on bikes, walked through quiet lanes framed by poplars, and followed trails that led to local bakeries and shy conversations with friendly locals. One day took us to Dachigam Wildlife Sanctuary — just 10 minutes away — where we spotted rare birds and shared a thermos of chai by a gurgling stream. Another day, we rode a shikara at sunrise, not from the usual bustling ghats, but from a quiet jetty just a short walk from Rah Bagh.

Back at the property, every little corner was designed to make you pause — whether it was the picture windows in the attic suites, the pool deck overlooking the rose garden, or the spa that smelled of cedar and lavender. We tried a Kashmiri aromatherapy massage post-hike and floated out like clouds.

Food was a joy in itself. Wan Posh, the all-day restaurant, served everything from local Wazwan delicacies to comfort food done right. At Café Sky, we found ourselves returning every evening — for grilled snacks, warm conversations, and the sight of the sun melting into the lake.

What we loved most was the balance — between luxury and nature, between quiet and comfort. There were no loud tourists, no packed itineraries, just the gentle rhythm of a place that lets you be.

Srinagar, in all its soft-spoken charm, gave us the break we didn’t know we needed. And Rah Bagh gave us the perfect corner to watch it unfold — one pine-scented, slow, soul-hugging day at a time.
