Is ChatGPT factually correct? Ever since OpenAI launched its new model GPT-5, most of the long-time users have been voicing their frustration. While the company claims this version is more accurate, hallucinates significantly less, and follows instructions more closely, users don't agree with this. According to them, the responses have not only been less personal and "corporate-like" but also "factually incorrect". 

The controversy ballooned recently when a paid user shared proof showing that GPT-5 "thinks" US President is Joe Biden, not Donald Trump. The claim surfaced on Reddit, triggering outrage and online debates about whether GPT-5 is factually inaccurate, biased, or deliberately avoiding politically sensitive updates.

A post on Reddit titled "£200 per year for this?" has gone viral, sparking discussions around GPT-5, which thinks Joe Biden is the current President of the United States. This incident has reignited doubts about how updated AI models actually are. Some users pointed out that when asked to perform a search on the web, GPT-5 gives correct answers. "It's very bad at giving accurate factual information like this. Ask it to perform a web search to find an answer".

Some sarcastically noted that for $200 a year, they should at least get a product that knows who the current US President is. "The previous model did a web search without asking, perhaps excessively. Now it seems they've taken too much of it away," said a user. Many users also pointed out that if GPT-5 fails at something as simple as identifying the president, its credibility becomes questionable. Others said that inaccuracies like this could be because of in-built political bias, especially when incorrect political information is being surfaced to users without clarification. "I asked my chat got to perform a web search for an MOS number yesterday and it told me, I actually can't search the web and I was like???? You've literally searched it for me before, to find job listings."
