Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Match No. 59 of Indian Premier League 2025. RCB have one whole foot and their toes from the other end in the playoffs, while that is the same margin with which LSG are alive in the tournament.
LSG are currently on a three-match losing streak, the last one against Punjab Kings in Dharamsala. Prabhsimran Singh's 91 was well supported by starts from other PBKS batters to eventually get to a very strong 236. Arshdeep Singh took three wickets in the powerplay itself, and that was all that PBKS needed to finish the game. Ayush Badoni and Abdul Samad got good scores, but they could only lower the loss margin.
RCB, on the other hand, are on a four-match winning streak with the last of those matches against Chennai Super Kings at home. It was an absolute nail-biter. Virat Kohli and Jacob Bethell made quickfire fifties, but RCB regressed after their dismissals. The lull was arrested by Romario Shpepherd taking Khaleel Ahmed apart for 33 runs in the penultimate over. Shepherd went on to complete the joint-second fastest fifty off the last ball of the innings.
CSK were struck by early blows in the powerplay, but shook them off. Ayush Mhatre was up to the task and was given the right support by Ravindra Jadeja. At one point, it looked as though the two might carry CSK to victory by themselves, but the game turned on its head. Mhatre was dismissed by Lungi Ngidi, and off the very next ball, Dewald Brevis was as well, albeit under dubious circumstances. The two wickets gave RCB their way in the match, and the back and forth between the sides continued until the last over.
Yash Dayal was tasked with defending 15 runs off the 20th over. The first two balls just gave away two runs, and Dayal dismissed MS Dhoni on the third. With 13 runs needed in 3 balls, Shivam Dube sent Dayal's beamer into the stands. CSK needed just 6 runs in 3 balls now and were faced with a free hit, but Dube found his hands again. The last three legal deliveries yielded just three runs, and RCB had won by just two.
This match will be RCB's last away game of the IPL season, where they haven't lost a single one. RCB will be eager to keep that record intact.
