Jorich van Schalkwyk etched his name in cricketing history by becoming the first batter in the history of men's Youth ODIs to smash a double hundred. This notable milestone came for South Africa U19 against Zimbabwe U19 in the opening game of the U19 Tri-Nation Series 2025, which is currently being played in Zimbabwe.

His splendid 153-ball 215-run knock comprised 19 fours and six sixes. The 18-year-old top-order batter scored almost 56% of the total posted by South Africa in the 49.5 overs they faced. He was eventually awarded the Player of the Match accolade for his special knock.

Van Schalkwyk, who spent 212 minutes at the crease, broke the record for the highest score in men's age-group cricket by Hasitha Boyagoda from Sri Lanka U19. The now-26-year-old Boyagoda had registered 191 way back in 2018. Interestingly, van Schalkwyk was coming off an unbeaten 164 which was made on July 22 in the final ODI of the bilateral series.

Speaking of the match, Jason Rowles was the second-highest scorer for the Proteas with 76 coming off 79 deliveries. Coming in at No. 5, Paul James contributed with a valuable cameo of 41 off 22. Tatenda Chimugoro was the pick of the bowlers, ending up with figures of 6/62 in 7.5 overs.

It was an outing to forget for the hosts at the Sunrise Sports Club in Harare. They ended up folding for just 107 in 24.3 overs, granting the South Africans a massive 278-run victory. 71 of the 107 (including 11 extras) came off the opening batters Nathaniel Hlabangana (31 off 28) and Kupakwashe Muradzi (40 off 48).

South Africa are scheduled to take on Bangladesh U19 on Saturday, July 26. The match will be played at the same venue as this game, slated to commence at 12:45 pm (IST).
