BJP, allies lead in counting of votes for Assam panchayat elections

Guwahati: The ruling BJP and its alliance partners are leading in the Assam panchayat elections -- the first such elections held after the delimitation of constituencies. BJP and AGP are leading in 32 and two zilla parishad constituencies (ZPC) respectively, out of a total of 397 constituencies across Assam.

Counting began at 8 am on Sunday. Polling took place in two phases -- on May 2 and May 7 -- across 27 districts of Assam. In Anchalik panchayat, BJP is leading in 294 seats, Congress in 19, AGP in 36, and others in 18, out of a total of 2,192 Anchalik parishad seats.BJP has registered impressive victories in Golaghat, Majuli and Aahotguri. BJP candidates were leading in four ZPCs under Golaghat constituency. In Khumtai constituency, BJP is ahead in Morangi, Nambor, Khumtai, and Mishamara ZPCs. BJP is leading in 10 seats in Aahotguri panchayat. BJP candidates have won all 10 ward member posts in Rawanapar Gaon panchayat of Majuli.
