Delhi Metro registered its highest-ever single-day ridership on August 8, 2025, with a total of 81,87,674 passenger journeys recorded across all lines, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation ( DMRC) announced.
According to DMRC, the record-breaking ridership came in response to increased travel demand ahead of the Raksha Bandhan festival. To manage the passenger load, the metro operator ran 92 additional train trips on August 8 and scheduled 455 extra trips for August 9, ensuring improved frequency and reduced crowding for commuters.
Operational focus during festival rush
The Delhi Metro typically experiences higher footfall during festivals. DMRC stated that operational adjustments were made to enhance passenger convenience during the Raksha Bandhan rush, with more trains deployed during peak hours and crowd management efforts at key interchange stations.
