New Delhi: Tamil actor Vijay's political party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam ( TVK) has moved the Supreme Court, challenging the Madras High Court order constituting a special investigation team to probe the Karur stampede that killed 41 people.
The high court had ordered a SIT probe after expressing that the state's investigation into the case so far was unsatisfactory. HC had criticised the party's officials over the stampede.
A bench comprising CJI BR Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran took note of the submissions of a lawyer that the plea, filed through TVK's secretary Aadhav Arjuna, be listed for hearing. The apex court agreed to hear the plea on Friday.
TVK has sought an independent probe under SC's supervision, contending that a fair and impartial probe would not be possible if conducted solely by officers of the Tamil Nadu police.
