Raksha Bandhan Ke Niyam: The festival of Raksha Bandhan is a symbol of love, trust, and an unbreakable bond between brother and sister. This day is not limited to just tying a Raksha Sutra, but it includes the blessings of the sister, the promise of the brother, and the emotional bond between the two. This festival is celebrated every year with great enthusiasm and reverence on the day of Sawan Purnima, when sisters tie Rakhi on their brothers' wrists and wish them long life, happiness, and peace.

Although the tradition of Raksha Bandhan may seem simple, there are some special rules and methods to celebrate it, which are considered necessary to follow. Keeping these rules in mind increases the spiritual and cultural significance of this festival even more. Let us know the important things that must be kept in mind before tying Rakhi, so that this festival can become even more auspicious and memorable.
Importance of Muhurta on Rakhi
Hinduism has a special timetable for auspicious works called "Muhurta". It is believed that if any religious or traditional work is done in the right Muhurta, then its results are many times more. This rule becomes even more important on a sacred and emotional festival like Raksha Bandhan. On this day, sisters tie Rakhi on the wrists of their brothers and wish for their happiness, prosperity, and long life. But this work should not be done at any time without thinking, especially not during Bhadra Kaal.
Bhadra Kaal is a special period, which is decided according to the Panchang. According to mythological beliefs, Bhadra was the sister of Shanidev, and her nature is considered fierce and inauspicious. It is also said that doing any auspicious work during Bhadra Kaal does not give the desired result, but many times it can also have opposite results. It is believed that Ravana's sister tied a Rakhi to him during Bhadra Kaal on the day of Raksha Bandhan. After this, disastrous events occurred in Ravana's life and ultimately led to his downfall. From this example, it is clear that tying a Rakhi during Bhadra Kaal is not considered auspicious.
Do these things before tying Rakhi
Purifying Rakhi with Gangajal is considered a very important tradition. Gangajal not only purifies physically, but it also has spiritual and divine properties, which make any object sacred. When the sister purifies the Rakhi with Gangajal, she frees it from negativity and turns it into a sacred and powerful Rakshasutra. This Rakhi not only protects the brother but also brings happiness, peace, and prosperity in his life.
What should sisters keep in mind?
When sisters prepare to tie Rakhi to their brothers on the day of Rakshabandhan, first of all, they should see the Panchang of that day and ensure that the time is free from Bhadra Kaal. Do the work of tying Rakhi only when the Muhurta is auspicious, so that the brother's age, health, and happiness remain in life.
Rules for tying Rakhi
On the day of Rakshabandhan, first of all, clean the place thoroughly where you are going to tie Rakhi to your brother. To maintain purity, you can also make a chowk (an auspicious shape) there with flour or rangoli.
Now prepare a puja thali in which to keep roli (tilak, sandalwood or kumkum), akshat (rice), rakhi, sweets, and a lamp. After this, make your brother sit on a chowki or aasan facing north or east. You also sit facing the same direction.
Before tying the rakhi, place a handkerchief or cloth on the brother's head. Then apply a tilak of roli, sandalwood, and akshat on his forehead. Now tie the rakhi on his right hand and while tying the rakhi, say this mantra: "Om Yen Baddho Bali Raja, Danavendra Mahabal: Ten Tvam Kamitnaami Rakshe Machal Machal:"

After this, feed sweets to the brother and perform his aarti. Finally, the brother should lovingly give gifts to the sister, which can be money, clothes, or any item. This entire ritual makes the brother-sister relationship stronger.
