Bengaluru: A group of men on Thursday morning allegedly found worm in a dish served at Bengaluru's Rameshwaram cafe situated in the airport. However the restaurant chain has denied the claims and have issued a statement which says that it was a fraud set up to extort ₹25 lakh as a compensation. The restaurant stated that the group of inviduals created public disturbance and attempted to extort money by staging a false food contamination scene.

On Thursday morning, July 24, a group of 5-7 individuals were dining at the Rameshwaram cafe's Bengaluru airport outlet. One man allegedly found a worm in the dish of pongal served to him. He created panick and started recording the video. Soon, the staff present at the cafe apologised the customers and offered full refund of ₹300 for the item. The video of the customer recording the scene has gone virla on the Internet which shows, a chaos and the customer panning the camera showing a worm in the spoon. He discusses with another customer about the possibility of raising a complaint with the cafe owner.

Rameshwaram Cafe's Statement:
Rameshwaram cafe has issued a statement on Thursday evening, on its social media platforms saying that it was a false allegation and a set up to malign the brand identity and to extort hefty money in return. The statment said, "The Rameshwaram Café has submitted call records, message screenshots, and other documentation to the police, requesting immediate legal action against the blackmail attempt."

Founder of The Rameshwaram Cafe, Divya Raghav, stated, "We categorically deny the baseless accusation that a worm or insect was found in our food. The safety and hygiene of our food preparation are non-negotiable. We operate under the strictest quality protocols, especially at sensitive locations like airports, where routine audits and hygiene checks are mandatory. This is clearly a case of a staged act with malicious intent to extort money and malign our brand."
Past Instance
Last year in the May 2024, Rameshwaram cafe's Hyderabad outlet came under the radar of the Food Safety Department of Telangana after several expired and mislabelled food items were recovered.
