UK's University of York To Open Mumbai Campus In 2026; Offering Computer Science, Business, Economics, And Creative Programs

The University of York has unveiled plans to launch a campus in Mumbai, India, and deliver its quality education and research experience to the nation. The campus is set to start admitting students from the 2026/27 academic year and will start by offering undergraduate and postgraduate studies in computer science, business, economics, and creative industries.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Charlie Jeffery of the University of York emphasised the importance of quality and purpose in the new endeavour. We're applying our values-driven approach to education and research, collaborating with a nation that has an aspirational drive for global influence, skill development, and economic growth. As reported by York News, he said, "The quality of what we do here in York, and our purposes as a university for public good, will be critical to the future success of this venture in India."

From the very start, the University of York Mumbai will have a strong focus on research, bolstering India's increasing need for research development and innovation in terms of food security, environmental transformation, and technologies of the future. The campus will be manned by its own dedicated staff supported by the curriculum and quality assurance system of the University of York.

British Council's support

British Council India Country Director Alison Barrett says it's great that the University of York has announced plans to open an international campus in Mumbai, India. Research cooperation between Indian and British inventors will be encouraged via excellent instruction and learning, as well as a strong focus on research and invention.

In order to move forward with plans, the University of York must obtain a licence from the University Grants Commission in India. The campus will first open in an existing building in a Mumbai commercial district, with ambitions to establish a whole campus complex in the upcoming years. Students will follow the York curriculum taught at its UK campus while studying in India.
