24-year-old Indian domestic cricketer Atharva Anolekar has hit the headlines after fetching a whopping ₹16.25 lakhs in the T20 Mumbai League auction that took place on May 7, Wednesday. The likes of Ayush Mhatre, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Musheer Khan, Sairaj Patil and Shams Mulani also grabbed the headlines but Anolekar took the cake.
Hence, it's certainly worth exploring who Anolekar is and reflect on his career. An all-rounder, who plays for Mumbai in domestic cricket, the left-hander has featured in two first-class games and 15 List A and T20 matches each since coming into the scene in 2021. Although the youngster's numbers in T20 are underwhelming, averaging only 18.40 with the bat and 29 with the ball, the Eagle Thane Strikers have invested in him, banking on the promise.

Anolekar's most notable achievement of his brief career came against Bangladesh during the U19 Asia Cup final in 2019 hosted by Colombo. His left-arm spin yielded a fifer as he took figures of 8-2-28-5 as India stunned Bangladesh by defending a paltry 106 to fashion a five-run victory. Since then, Anolekar has played in Vijay Hazare Trophy matches and U19 World Cup games.
