What began as a modest three-room guesthouse with attached bathrooms in Morjim has since grown into a thriving 36-room beachfront resort, thanks to the foresight and entrepreneurial spirit of Paul D’Souza.
At a time when most locals offered basic accommodation options with outdoor washrooms to backpackers and hippies, Paul envisioned something greater.
“His belief was simple,” recalls his son, Albert D’Souza, the current owner of Ivy Morjim. “If tourists were already flocking to Anjuna and Calangute, why not Morjim?”
This forward-thinking approach laid the foundation for what is now known as Ivy Morjim, a family-run hotel that played a pivotal role in putting Morjim on the international tourism map.
The turning point came when an English couple booked a four-month , signalling the start of steady international interest. “After them, came two Germans, a group of Israelis, and eventually, the first-ever Russian couple to visit Morjim,” says Albert.
Over the years, the property expanded to include 36 rooms, with a diverse mix of accommodations such as standard and deluxe rooms, luxury suites, 2BHK and 4BHK villas, and charming wooden cottages.
The Russian affection for the scenic beach even led to the filming of two Russian films which dramatically boosted visibility across Russia and sparking a surge of Russian tourists in Goa.
In the early days, competition was minimal, which helped Ivy Morjim establish itself as a go-to choice for international visitors.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic brought a sharp decline in international tourism. In response, the family pivoted their focus toward domestic travellers, leveraging Google ads, agent partnerships and continual upgrades.
“Modern travellers expect more,” explains Albert. “So we added a swimming pool, a beach-facing restaurant with deck beds, and we’re constantly refurbishing rooms to maintain standards.” The property is also preferred for a beach wedding venue.
The in-house restaurant which is a beach shack has become a standout feature, offering authentic Goan cuisine alongside other popular so as to appeal to Indian and foreign guests . “Tourists from Russia are very appreciative of the effort we put into the variety,” Albert notes.
Today, every room at Ivy Morjim comes fully equipped with ACs, flat-screen TVs, fridges, tea/coffee makers, premium fittings and king-size beds, ensuring a relaxing and memorable stay.
As one of the pioneers in professional accommodations in the area, Ivy Morjim continues to shape the identity of this now-global destination.
