China on Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2025: China said on Monday that it is working with India to advance relevant preparations to resume the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun described it as an important part of cultural and public relations exchanges between the two countries. He said the sacred mountain and lake are extremely important for devotees of many religions, including Tibetan Buddhism and Hinduism.

During a regular press briefing in Beijing, the spokesperson said, "According to the agreement reached between China and India, the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra will resume this summer. Both sides are currently carrying out necessary preparations." He also said, "This year marks the 75th anniversary of China-India diplomatic relations. China is ready to work with India to sincerely implement the important common understanding reached between the leaders and push bilateral relations forward on the path of good and stable development."

The trip will begin in June

Last week, India's foreign ministry also announced that the long-awaited Kailash Mansarovar Yatra will be held between June and August this year. "This year, five teams, each with 50 pilgrims, will travel via the Lipulekh pass in Uttarakhand and 10 teams, each with 50 pilgrims, will travel via the Nathu La pass in Sikkim," according to a statement issued by the foreign ministry on Saturday.

How to apply for the trip?

It was told that the website kmy.gov.in has been started to accept applications for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra . Since 2015, the entire process from online application to selection of pilgrims has been computerized.

The Ministry of External Affairs also clarified that applicants do not need to send letters or faxes to get information. Information can be obtained or suggestions can be entered through the feedback option available on the website. India and China were engaged in deciding the process and rules for resuming travel since the beginning of this year.

The situation changed due to the meeting of Modi and Jinping

Let us tell you that the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra was postponed in 2020 after the spread of the Kovid-19 epidemic and due to China not renewing the travel arrangements. Earlier, the Indian government had organized the Yatra through the Lipulekh Pass since 1981 and through the Nathu La Pass since 2015.

In a meeting led by India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and China's Deputy Foreign Minister in January 2025, the two countries agreed on a plan to resume the visit. In this meeting, a comprehensive review of India-China bilateral relations was done and some people-centric steps were agreed upon, as decided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping during their meeting in Kazan in October 2024.
