Menopause age in Indian women: Menopause is a situation in which a woman does not get periods for 12 months. With increasing age, every woman has to go through these situations. By the way, all women experience menopause by the age of 55 years. It is also called the reproductive and fertility year end because children cannot be born after menopause. It is worth noting that the time of menopause is different for every woman. Some get menopause at the age of 40 and some do not get it even after the age of 50.
A major stage of hormonal change in a woman's life is menopause. But it doesn't come overnight. It is a process that is divided into three stages: perimenopause, menopause and postmenopause. Each stage has its own identity, different symptoms and requires different care. The main cause of menopause is the decrease in the body's two major female hormones estrogen and progesterone. These hormones are produced by the ovaries and as age increases, their quantity decreases, which stops ovulation and periods stop.
Age and symptoms of pre-menopause
Dr. Saloni Chaddha of the Gynecology Department at Safdarjung Hospital says that not every woman experiences menopause at the age of 40. Some people experience menopause even at the age of 35. Menopause before the normal age is called pre-menopause. However, this happens to only 10 percent of women. In this stage, the ovaries gradually start producing less hormones (estrogen, progesterone), periods become irregular. Fertility starts decreasing, the body starts feeling hormonal changes.
Symptoms of pre-menopause-
In the age of pre-menopause, the cycle of periods starts changing, like sometimes it comes too early or too late. Sometimes sudden feeling of heat starts which is also called hot flashes. Signs like night sweats, mood swings, irritability, trouble sleeping, lack of sexual desire, hair fall or dryness of skin also start appearing.
Age and symptoms of post-menopause
By the age of 55, if a woman has not had periods for 12 months, then menopause has occurred. The condition after this is called post-menopause. In India, this occurs in women aged 50 to 55 years. In this stage, the ovaries stop producing eggs. The estrogen and progesterone hormones stop almost completely. The woman can no longer conceive.
