The latest instalment in Gearbox Software's cell-shaded loot-shooter is on the brink of unleashing a fresh wave of co-operative FPS mayhem.

It's hard to fathom that it's been an astonishing six years since the last Borderlands game hit the shelves, but developer Gearbox Software is poised to deliver the next chapter in the much-loved loot-shooter series. All indications suggest that Borderlands 4 will offer a familiar FPS experience that's just as fun when played with mates.

However, confining the action to a single planet this time suggests a desire to keep things more straightforward rather than expanding into a vast scope.

As with any new Borderlands game, there are four brand-new Vault Hunter classes to choose from, and Borderlands 4 doesn't disappoint in this regard with Amon, Harlowe, Rafa, and Vex all showcasing unique combat skills. In many ways, this latest entry feels like a slight reversal to the wild ambition of Borderlands 3, and a deliberate effort to tone down the franchise's typical toilet humour that has previously put some people off.

Borderlands 4 is all about the looting and shooting – making both elements as entertaining and chaotic as possible.

If you're keen to explore everything this forthcoming sequel has to offer, we've got the details on the Borderlands 4 release time and date. Here are the full details.

Borderlands 4 release time and date

The official release date for Borderlands 4 has been confirmed for Friday, September 12. Unfortunately, neither 2K nor Gearbox Software have announced the exact time of release yet.

However, both the UK PlayStation Store and American store listings suggest a regional launch at midnight rather than a simultaneous global one. This suggests that the release time for Borderlands 4 will be 9am PDT / 12am EDT / 12am BST, as the US store operates on Eastern time.

These details apply to players planning to get the game on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Those with a Nintendo Switch 2 will have to wait a bit longer, with this version set to be released on October 3, 2025.

On the bright side, all versions of Borderlands 4 will feature cross-play from day one, allowing teams of four to play together regardless of their platform. There is no early access available for those who pre-order.
