As someone with long, heavy, fine hair that's prone to getting greasy quickly, I'm never without a can of dry shampoo in my haircare routine. I've tried dozens of different ones over the years, from bargain buys to luxury splurges, but there's one that I return to time and time again; it's truly the most effective one I've tried, and plenty of other beauty editors agree.
Unlike most, Living Proof's Perfect Hair Day Advanced Clean Dry Shampoo doesn't just mask greasiness or odours but actually cleans the hair and scalp, soaking up excess oils then whisking them away. And it's now got even better, having just launched in a gorgeous cosy scent that smells just like a luxury perfume.

With Google searched for hair fragrance sprays up by 120% recently, this cult classic dry shampoo – which sells one every 30 seconds – now comes in a Velvet Amber variation, available for £27 exclusively at Space NK.
Crafted like a fine fragrance, you'll find top notes of bergamot and grapefruit, middle notes of camellia and pear blossom, and a base of golden amber musk, vanilla and blonde woods. The result is a warm, rich and indulgent scent that lasts for hours, and smells instantly comforting and cosy – or, as one shopper put it, "more put together".
"I’m a repeat purchaser of the original scent of this dry shampoo and with good reason," they wrote on the Space NK website. "It works well to extend my hair wash days when I have fine hair and an oily scalp but bleached ends I don’t want to keep stressing. This scent is lovely, I’ve thrown it in my gym bag in hopes not only am I doing my hair a favour but leaving smelling a little more put together."
The trick with using this Living Proof formula is to spray it onto roots, wait 30 seconds for the powder to absorb any grease, then rub in or brush any excess away.
At £27, it is more expensive than a lot of dry shampoos, but I honestly think it's worth it – as you need to apply far less than you would with a cheap one, it lasts much longer, and the results are so good – no white dust or feeling like you've got product in your hair.
However, if you are after something a little cheaper, there's ARKIVE Headcare The Reset Dry Shampoo, £14, from the range from top hairdresser Adam Reed. I also don't think you can go wrong with good old Batiste, £4.49, if you want a cheap 'n' cheerful option.
