Shaun Murphy shows true colours as Judd Trump wins £100,000 right in front of him

Shaun Murphy showed a touch of class as hit his 100th century of the season at the on Sunday.

The two legends of the game were pitted off against one another in the second round of the prestigious tournament at the Crucible on Sunday, with World No. 1 Trump headed into the fixture with 98 centuries to his name for 2024/25. And in the 15th frame of the match, Trump achieved the feat in what was hailed as a "masterclass in break building" by commentator .

After finishing the frame with a total score of 132 to take a 9-6 lead, Trump also exchanged a brief handshake as Murphy looked to further congratulate his opponent. At the time, was heard saying: "Well played Judd Trump, well played. Absolutely superb - and Shaun showing his appreciation. Magic moment."

Trump then bolstered his lead to 10-6 with a 147 finish before play was paused for the evening. The two are set to continue their match come Monday afternoon for a spot in the quarter finals with either Luca Brecel or Ding Junhui.

While the winner of the Snooker World Championship will receive an impressive prize of £500,000, Trump will already walk away from the tournament at least £100K richer thanks to the bonus he will receive from the World Snooker Tour for his 100th century of the season.

It's the second time in his bustling career that the "Ace in the Pack" has achieved the feat, making 102 centuries in 2019/20. Meanwhile, he is just one of two men to have made a century of seasons in a calendar year at all - with clinching 103 in 2013/14.

Trump will hope to secure his second-ever World Championship when the tournament's final rolls around at the turn of next month. The talent scooped his first in 2019 thanks to a remarkable 18-9 win over , but has also made the final in 2011 and 2022 - missing out to Higgins and respectively.

Favourite to snag the tournament prior to it starting, Trump was able to see off Yuelong Zhou with a 10-4 win before advancing to face 2005 World Championship winner Murphy. It comes after hit the tournament's first 147 earlier in the week to clinch a hefty £40,000 bonus of his own, as well as a third of the high break prize, the other two going to Jackson Page during Crucible qualifying.

However, the Northern Irishman was omitted from the tournament in his own second round clash with Chris Wakelin with a score of 13-6 after a rocky start. Trump and Murphy resume their match at 1pm on Monday.
