While many cricketers step away from the international stage as they age, some continue to mesmerize fans in franchise T20 leagues. Former Team India captain MS Dhoni, at 43, is still a force in the IPL, but even older than him, leg-spinner Imran Tahir, at 46, is proving that age is just a number. He recently put on a masterclass, troubling batsmen and leading his team to a resounding victory.
In the fourth match of the Global Super League in Providence, West Indies, the Guyana Amazon Warriors faced Central Districts. The Warriors posted a moderate total of 158 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their 20 overs. However, their bowlers, spearheaded by the South African duo of Imran Tahir and Dwaine Pretorius, made sure the target was insurmountable for Central Districts.
Tahir's Unplayable SpellDespite having retired from international cricket a few years ago, the 46-year-old Tahir showcased his enduring brilliance. In his four-over spell, he conceded just 23 runs while picking up four crucial wickets, dismantling the Central Districts' batting lineup. So impactful was Tahir's bowling that Central Districts collapsed for a mere 92 runs in just 14.2 overs, handing the Warriors a comprehensive 66-run victory. Dwaine Pretorius also contributed significantly with three wickets for 18 runs.
This performance further solidifies Tahir's reputation as a T20 legend, proving that his skill and cunning remain potent weapons in the shortest format of the game, even at an age when most players have long hung up their boots.
