The 'Shubh' era of the Indian team has begun under the leadership of Shubman Gill. The right-handed batsman is the captain who gave India its first win at Edgbaston, and now he has his eyes on the Lord's Test. In the third match of the five-match Test series, Gill will be eyeing a big record as a batsman. He is just 18 runs away from breaking the record of a great batsman like Rahul Dravid.
Gill's eyes are on this record of Dravid
In this ongoing series between India and England, Test team captain Shubman Gill has scored 585 runs in four innings played so far. He is currently the highest run-scorer. Now his eyes are on a record which even legendary batsmen like Virat Kohli could not break. The record for scoring the most runs in a single series in England is registered in the name of former Indian captain Rahul Dravid. He scored 602 runs in six innings at an average of 100.33 on the England tour in 2002. During this time, Dravid, famous by the nickname 'The Wall', scored three centuries and a half-century. Now Gill is just 18 runs away from his record.
Gill can leave Kohli behind, too.
Virat Kohli is the second Indian batsman to score the most runs in a single series in England. The former captain scored 593 runs in 2018 with the help of two centuries and three half-centuries in 10 innings. Gill will leave him behind as soon as he scores nine runs. Currently, he is in third place. Sunil Gavaskar is in the fourth position, having scored 542 runs in seven innings in 1979.
Gill broke the 54-year-old record in the Edgbaston Test.
Gill is in great form in this series, and he has shown his strength in the second innings as well. Gill rocked both innings of the Edgbaston Test. He scored a double century in the first innings and completed another century in the second innings. With this feat, he achieved a big achievement. He is the second Indian batsman after Sunil Gavaskar and the ninth overall to score a century after scoring a double century in the same Test match. Gavaskar scored a century in the first innings against West Indies in 1971, while he was successful in scoring a double century in the second innings. Gill has thus become the second Indian batsman after 54 years to achieve this feat in a Test match.
