Chennai experienced heavy rainfall on October 15, following the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) forecast of intense downpours. The IMD had issued an alert for Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu, warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall within the next 24 hours.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin ordered the closure of schools and colleges in four districts due to the heavy rains. The affected districts include Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu, with the closure enforced on Tuesday, October 15. The state government has also advised a work-from-home policy for these regions, effective from October 15 to October 18.On Sunday, the Regional Meteorological Centre issued a red alert for several parts of Chennai due to the severe weather forecast. The weather department anticipates rainfall of up to 20 cm in a single day during this monsoon period.
Districts like Dharamapuri, Salem, Nilgiris, and Erode are also expected to experience heavy rainfall as predicted by the IMD. Chennai and nearby districts are bracing for more rain due to the onset of the northeast monsoon, expected around October 15 or 16.
