US Vice-President Kamala Harris delivered a final appeal to Michigan voters, rallying for unity and a fresh approach without mentioning her opponent, former President and Republican candidate Donald Trump, during a Sunday event.
"America is ready for a fresh start, ready for a new way forward, where we see each other not as enemies but as neighbors," Harris said, emphasizing a leadership style that lifts others up rather than putting them down. She pledged to "turn the page on a decade of politics driven by fear and division."
While Harris has frequently compared her goals with Trump’s “enemies list” during her campaign, she chose not to bring it up this time. Addressing a young crowd in East Lansing, she added, "I don't believe people who disagree with me are the enemy. I'll even give them a seat at the table, because that’s what strong leaders do," which drew enthusiastic applause.
Recently, Harris and her supporters have criticized Trump for his behavior, referring to him as "unhinged" and highlighting his confrontational language toward the media and critics.
In her final pitch, Harris encouraged Michigan residents who hadn't voted to do so on Election Day, while urging those who already had to support her campaign in the crucial battleground state. With the election just days away, she expressed confidence, stating, "We have momentum. It is on our side."
"We’re building momentum by tapping into the dreams and aspirations of the American people. Together, we’re excited about what we can achieve, and we know it’s time for new leadership," she said, speaking from an auditorium packed with young voters at Michigan State University.
Harris urged, "Michigan, I am here to ask for your vote," receiving a long round of applause. She reiterated her commitment to finding "common ground and common sense solutions" rather than seeking political gains, reminding attendees that their votes would be pivotal in this election.
