Alex de Minaur brings back youngster for Paris Masters clash as 'good luck' charm in box

Alex de Minaur has unleashed his secret weapon on his way to the last-16 of the Paris Masters. The Australian on Wednesday, winning 6-4 7-6.

It's not the first time that De Minaur has found form in France this year though, having reached the quarter-final stage at the .

In that tournament, he caused a huge shock by knocking out fifth seed in the fourth round, before losing out to Alexander Zverez.

But at Roland Garros, it wasn't just form on the court that was spurring on De Minaur. He was also cheered on vociferously by a young fan in the stands, so much so that after his win over Jan-Lennard Struff, .

And now his 'good luck' charm is back and firmly behind his favourite player. During the clash with Kecmanovic, Tennis TV commentator Mikey Perera noticed that youngster in the stands, and instantly referenced his antics in May and June.

"Eagle-eyed fans at home might recognise that young fan," he said. "He was roaring Alex de Minaur onto success at Roland Garros earlier this year. Young superfan of the 'Demon'. Loving it, he's not lost his voice either. Young Parisian called Paul. Good to see him back supporting De Minaur."

Indeed, the fan was regularly up on his feet and fist bumping and arm waving when De Minaur got points. And it's of little surprise the ninth seed has opted to bring him back again, after previously praising his impact following his victory against Medvedev.

Asked if he would be inviting him again, he replied "Oh, 100 per cent I will. He managed a miracle. Yeah actually, I might have to get him on the tour (with me) week in, week out."

The 25-year-old had located the fan through social media. Sharing pictures of him cheering in the stands, he wrote: "I need to find the name of this legend!!! Message me on Instagram, I need you for the next round."

De Minaur may need the extra help at the next stage of his current event, as he's set to play the winner of the clash between Jack Draper and American Taylor Fritz. He's chasing a 10th career title, with his last victory coming at the Libema Open in June.

It's also been his most prosperous year in terms of Grand Slam events, reaching the quarter-final stage in France, , and at the . He also reached the last-16 at his home slam in for the third consecutive season.
