made a brave admission during Saturday evening's screening of A Night With Elton John and Brandi Carlile, as pre-recorded video footage showed him breaking down in tears and hurling objects across the room during the recording of his new album. He and Brandi's new album, Who Believes In Angels?, was "incredibly hard" to make, and the Rocketman singer confessed: "I just lost it."
He added during his candid confession that he hadn't been so emotional during album making or touring "whether it be anger or crying, for years and years and years". He became friends with 11-times Grammy Award winning American songstress Brandi Carlile "instantly" when he met her - but that didn't mean the recording process was easy. Elton, who has struggled with health issues in recent times, confessed: "I had to work through the pain and it was a big push - I had to feel for the first time."
An onlooker in the studio recalled: "There were tears coming from his eyes at one point and he turned around and he said, 'Is it too Lion King'?"
There was an instant reaction on X, with one viewer noting: "Good old having one of his diva tantrums!"
However, another countered that, tantrums or no tantrums, "Sam Smith will never stand up to the legend of Elton John!"
Elton also shared the silver lining that the "frustration" helped motivate him, explaining: "The tension led to us really upping our game!"
The singer has become increasingly emotional in recent times as he confronts his own mortality and realises that he won't be here forever - .
Meanwhile, Elton also made the surprise admission on the show, which saw himself and Brandi perform their album live together for the first time, that it isn't his musical accomplishments he wants to be remembered for.
He exclaimed: "All I want on my tombstone is nothing to do with Crocodile F*****g Rock! The hardest thing in the world is to be a parent and that's all I wanna be!"
