Garden experts say April is the ideal time to get ahead on outdoor prep so your garden is ready to shine during summer. April is an important month to put the work in if you want your garden looking its best for summer. From cleaning up after a long winter to planting vibrant blooms, these early tasks will lay the foundation for a lush, welcoming space where you'll want to spend time.
Matthew Lock, director of luxurious garden furniture specialists said: "The changing of the clocks and the arrival of longer evenings means summer is fast approaching. April is the perfect time to start preparing your outdoor spaces in order for them to be ready to welcome family and friends this summer.
"The cold, harsh weather brought by winter can leave gardens looking less than ideal, so a deep clean is a good way to start."
Lucy Benson of teak garden set firm added: "April is a great chance to get your garden organised early, by carrying tasks such as reseeding your lawn or ordering new garden furniture.
"The risk of leaving things to the last minute is that your favourite items might become out of stock, or there can be a lengthy waiting list for deliveries or services."
1. Deep clean your garden
Winter weather can leave your garden looking dull and neglected. April is the perfect time for a deep clean to bring it back to life.
Make sure you remove moss, weeds and debris and clean outdoor spaces so plants can thrive again.
2. Preparing outdoor furniture
Mr. Lock said that April is the ideal time to clean and protect existing garden furniture or order new pieces early to avoid stock issues and prepare for summer.
3. Reseeding your lawn
April is also the perfect time to prepare for a lush, green lawn by clearing winter debris, aerating the soil, and evenly applying grass seed with a light soil covering.
4. Maximising space by rearranging
Transforming your garden can be as simple as deep cleaning and rearranging existing furniture and plants to better utilise space and sunlight.
5. Prepare outdoor plants and flowers
Planting summer-flowering bulbs like begonias, freesias, and dahlias this month is a great way to add vibrant color and give your garden a seasonal glow-up.
