GB News was interrupted for breaking news as Lucy Powell MP won the deputy leader race weeks after Angela Rayner resigned from the role. Taking to the podium, Powell said in front of her peers and the press: "It's a privilege to be elected deputy leader of the Labour Party..."
Powell said she would "be a champion" in everything Labour stands for and paid tribute to her "friend" Rayner, who has "left some very big shoes" for her to fill. The politician then spoke directly to Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who was in the crowd and assured him she'd "help him" as his deputy. Powell also stated: "We have to offer big change that the country is crying out for. We must give a stronger sense of our purpose, whose side we are on, and of our Labour values and beliefs."
However, GB News viewers were left unimpressed by her speech and the news, with many flocking to social media to share their thoughts.
Taking to the X, formerly known as Twitter, one person wrote: "Huge mistake stake this one! In her speech she had to mention Nigel Farage & immigration "We rejects Nigel stance on immigration obviously another Labour idiot who can't read the room. What is wrong with this dreadful party?"
Another said: "These clowns no nothing of what the Labour Party stands for. The likes of John Smith will be turning in there graves."
A third wrote: "She will put even more voters off Labour." Meanwhile, a fourth said: "The only change we want is a change of government."
A fifth chimed: "A big metaphorical smack from @LucyMPowell to @Keir_Starmer within minutes of her beating @bphillipsonMP in the Labour leadership challenge."
Someone else penned: "The big change and challenge the country needs is to be rid of this Labour Party. A Labour Party that has shafted pensioners, farmers, businesses and the very working class they pretend to stand for."
