Kym Marsh honours midwife at Pride of Britain Awards as she breaks down in tears

Actress was visibly emotional as she honoured remarkable midwife Agnes Nisbett at the Daily Mirror's this week. The annual event, which marked its 25th anniversary on Monday night, paid tribute to the UK's fundraisers, inspiring children, community heroes, young achievers and courageous individuals with well-deserved awards.

The ceremony took place at London's Grosvenor House Hotel, where a plethora of stars gathered to celebrate these achievements.

Agnes Nisbett, one of the award recipients, was named Community Hero for her years of unwavering commitment to supporting bereaved mothers. The 87 year old began her journey as a young midwife and experienced the devastating loss of a stillbirth in 1973.

This personal tragedy led her to create a sanctuary for women who had endured similar losses. After losing her son John many years ago, Agnes returned to work determined to make a difference. She had no mementos of her son and wanted to ensure other mothers didn't face the same heartache, reports .

As a result, she initiated the Born Whilst Sleeping programme at Leicester Royal Infirmary. She designated a separate room for grieving mothers, away from the main maternity ward, allowing them a private space to mourn.

Agnes also encouraged these mothers to take photographs and palm prints as cherished keepsakes.

The audience was moved to tears by Agnes' story. Host Carol Vorderman announced that 'two women grateful to you' would present her award.

An emotional Kym Marsh and Sue Johnston then took to the stage to express their gratitude to Agnes for her years of dedicated service.

Kym Marsh was overcome with emotion as she paid a heartfelt tribute to Agnes: "From one mother who has experienced baby loss to another, thank you.

"My son would have been 16 next year and there is no doubt you made the experience more bearable so from the bottom of my heart. Thank you."

The mum-of-three, 48, along with her former husband Jamie Lomas, was left distraught when they lost their premature baby boy in 2009, who was born at just 21 weeks.

Kym has spoken openly about her ordeal in the past, confessing: "It was the worst thing that's ever happened to me. I was absolutely devastated. It's the most painful thing I've ever felt."

The Pride of Britain Awards on Monday evening saw celebrities wiping away tears as they celebrated the nations 'true' heroes.

Marking 25 years of emotional accolades, the event shone a spotlight on ordinary individuals doing extraordinary thingsfrom community heroes and remarkable fundraisers to courageous children and life-saversall based on nominations from the public and selected by a judging panel.

The prestigious ceremony was held at the opulent Grosvenor House Hotel where VIPs enjoyed a grand dinner and presentations conducted by the seasoned pair, Carol Vorderman and Ashley Banjo, veteran presenters united for half a decade.

The night sparkled with A-listers including TOWIE's Pete Wicks, Chelsea chap Sam Thompson, stars of Strictly Come Dancing, impresario Simon Cowell among others, with all the guests visibly touched by the poignant stories shared.
