Liverpool women's defender Mia Enderby was rushed to hospital with a suspected neck injury following an incident during her side's defeat at Tottenham, with the match halted for over 10 minutes. Enderby appeared to fall awkwardly on her neck whilst challenging for an aerial ball and, following extensive treatment, was stretchered off the pitch.
The prolonged stoppage resulted in 22 minutes of added time at the end of the fixture. The 20-year-old had featured in all six of Liverpool's Women's Super League matches this campaign and was named in the starting eleven against Spurs. Speaking afterwards, manager Gareth Taylor revealed he had yet to consult with the club's medical team, but described the injury as "not nice to see".
He also stated: "Hopefully she is OK. At one point I thought she was going to re-enter in terms of getting back up and start to play again but with those types of injuries it's really crucial we take care of them."
Tottenham managed to overturn their deficit to secure all three points through strikes from Toko Koga and Bethany England. Liverpool had opened the scoring through Beata Olsson's effort.
Enderby penned a fresh two-year contract in the summer, having registered 42 appearances and netted six goals during her initial two campaigns with the club. This compounds Liverpool's injury concerns as they are already missing Marie Hobinger and Sophie Roman Haug, who both sustained anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries prior to the international break.
Taylor lamented the team's predicament, stating: "We didn't have anything from the sidelines today unfortunately. It's not ideal when you have to play a 21-year-old Hannah Silcock up on the right side. We just have to battle through it.
"The message is clear. We're working so hard as staff, players and everyone at the club to turn this into a better situation. But it takes a bit of time and a bit of support. Unfortunately, as we've seen at the moment, we're getting knocked a bit - but we'll keep fighting."
The Reds' manager confessed he doesn't expect to be top of the WSL but desires more consistency in performances and results. He further added: "We don't expect to be top of the league, we're realistic and we know we're at the start of a really, really long project.
"But, of course, you want to see some positive moments and I think we've seen glimpses. It's just we're not able to sustain it for long enough in a game of 90 minutes."
