In his first ever visit to the country, Harry spoke to fulfil his role as co-founder of Travalyst, an organisation which promotes environmentally friendly forms of travel.
Meanwhile, Harry's estranged father, King Charles, is in Canada with his wife, Queen Camilla,the first time the monarch has done so since his mother, Queen Elizabeth, in 1977.
Fans questioned why Harry didn't conduct his speech "on Zoom" via video call to promote sustainable travel. One on X wrote: "Looks like Prince Harry's climate speech in China has everyone buzzing-guess he forgot to mention the carbon footprint of his royal jet-setting! Maybe next time he'll Zoom in from Montecito with Meghan and the bees instead-now that'd be a sustainable buzz!"
Critic and journalist Phil Dampier also wrote on X: "So have I got this right? #PrinceHarry has flown 6,400 miles to tell travel executives they should be more environmentally friendly. Couldn't he have sent a video message?"
Another X user harshly said: "Someone tell this twit that 'sustainable travel' = delivering your message via zoom!"
However, fans of the Prince were pleased he was "booked and busy", since stepping down from royal duties in 2020. One wrote: "Prince Henry Mountbatten Windsor the Duke of Sussex England living his best life unapologetically. Booked and Busy in Shanghai China for his company @Travalyst Get Your Bag Prince Harry."
One user wrote: "He is so much more confident since he married. A wonderful public speaker."
Harry, during his address to the Envision 2025 Global Partner Conference, told the travel industry it must do more to reach its
, the Prince said: "Climate change isn't just an environmental challenge - it's a critical business emergency, costing the global economy $143billion dollars annually.
"Now is the moment for the industry to reaffirm its commitment to being a force for good. Challenges will undoubtedly rise, but if there's one thing I've learned in my life, it's that meaningful change never comes easily.
"The true measure of our commitment is how we respond when the path becomes difficult. We must never give up."
Harry's speech came after the release of Travalyst's Five-Year Milestone Report, where the organisation highlighted travellers' power to drive positive changes. Harry told the travel industry it needed to work together to achieve climate change targets before the 2030 deadline. He also added that the Asia-Pacific region is "strongly positioned to do this".
