A TalkTV segment has ignited fresh controversy around the Duke and Duchess of York after royal biographer Andrew Lownie claimed both Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson could "very well go to prison" if authorities pursue new investigations linked to the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.
Lownie, author of Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York was discussing the long-running fallout from Prince Andrew's association with Epstein, which led to the Duke stepping back from royal duties and losing several patronages. Andrew has always denied any wrongdoing and reached an out-of-court settlement with the now deceased, Virginia Giuffre, in 2022.
Ms Ferguson, meanwhile, has previously acknowledged accepting financial assistance from Epstein in 2010 to help clear personal debts, a decision she later described as a "gigantic error of judgment".
She has never been accused of any crime and has denied knowledge of Epstein's criminal behaviour.
During the explosive TalkTV interview, Lownie said the Royal Family may now be ready to distance themselves even further.
"We will perhaps bite the bullet, and they will throw him under the bus," he claimed. "They can see the reputational damage he's done, and I think they will want to distance themselves."
He claimed authorities could indeed "pursue charges" but it was his next statement that sent shockwaves through the studio.
"And I think if they do so, there's a very good chance that both he and Sarah Ferguson may well go to prison," he claimed.
The stunned broadcaster responded: "Wow. Wow. That's a revelation. I mean, he would go on a mission."
The Met has previously looked into allegations relating to Andrew and Epstein's activities in London three times, and opted not to investigate.
They have since confirmed they are "actively looking" into fresh allegations that Andrew tried to use his police bodyguard to smear his accuser Virgina Giuffre.
Meanwhile Buckingham Palace is in talks to find a new home for the Duchess of York, it has been claimed. Aides representing the King are understood to have suggested options for Ms Ferguson as part of multiple proposals to end Prince Andrew's lease at Royal Lodge.
Prince Andrew and his ex-wife live at the 30-room Windsor home together, along with two corgis once belonging to the late Queen Elizabeth II.
