A school bus full of students has crashed and flipped onto its side, resulting in five and the driver being rushed to .
Emergency services rushed to the scene at 415 Rock House Hollow Road in Sumner County, Tennessee after receiving reports a school bus carrying students crashed into a creek and flipped onto its side. Initial reports indicated multiple injuries and at least one person was trapped inside.
Some children were seen with visible injuries. Air medical was placed on standby but later canceled after crews determined that all injuries were minor. Tennessee Highway Patrol shared on X: "The Tennessee Highway Patrol is responding to a report of a school bus crash in Sumner County. Preliminary information indicates the bus has rolled onto its side in a creek." They added: "We can confirm that students were on the bus at the time of the crash."
Speaking to an officer from Tennessee Highway Patrol later said: "The driver lost control of the bus, entered into a creek area then struck a bridge where it landed." He also confirmed five students and the driver suffered minor to moderate injuries and were all transported to local hospitals.
Sumner County Schools spokesperson Jeremy Johnson said via email that the bus, number 612, was carrying 19 students from Westmoreland Middle and High Schools when it slid off the road and overturned into the dry creed bed. He also confirmed 14 students were released to their parents and five were taken to hospital, according to Yahoo! News.
A spokesperson forwith a post that read: "There was an accident on Rock House Hollow Rd in Westmoreland involving bus #612. Four students have been transported for medical care. All other students are being transported to Bethpage Elementary School for parents to pick up. A REMIND message has been sent to all WHS parents with this information."
Picures taken from the scene show the bus being recovered from the creek by a crane. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is at the scene carrying out inquiries for their investigation. The bus will be looked at to ensure it did not have any mechanical malfunctions that could have caused the crash.
