The stunning Italian city frozen in time just 80 minutes from Florence

A beautiful artistic city located in the central Italian region of

Lucca sits in the centre of a mesmerising landscape that has medieval towns dotted around, taking you back in time.

In just 80 minutes, you can travel by train from Tuscany's capital city, , right to Lucca, a city in the region worth visiting.

Known as an City of Art due to its Italian Renaissance-era city walls and preserved historic centre having origins that date back all the way to the second half of the first century.

Most of the buildings in the city reflect Lucca's building plans from medieval times, with the most prominent being the Roman amphitheatre - now the Piazza dell'Anfiteatro (a ring of buildings surrounding a public square) by architect Lorenzo Nottolini.

The amphitheatre is where gladiator shows, and games were held, but today, its remains have been preserved, and the area is home to private residents and cafes where visitors can sit and appreciate the history that runs through the city's walls.

In the middle of the city lies the Guinigi Tower, a stunning piece of Romanesque-Gothic architecture. At the top of the 150 ft tower is a little garden full of trees that's open to the public, giving the opportunity to experience a panoramic view over the whole of Lucca.

The city also hosts various events. In October, Europe's largest festival for comics, movies and games takes place in Lucca. The annual Lucca Comics and Games festival sees the city centre transformed with exhibitions and people doing roleplay as well as playing card and board games.

Even though the city has modernised over the years, Lucca still holds on tight to its heritage.
