The UK's "worst road" for drivers has been unveiled and surprisingly one of Britain's packed motorways didn't make the cut.
The A12 connecting London to the East Suffolk seaside town of Lowestoft has hit the bottom of the table with motorists angered at the quality of the route.
It comes from an analysis by independent watchdog in their latest
The annual report asked more than 9,100 road users about their journeys on major routes across the country.
The analysis found the A12 to be the overall worst in the country with a satisfaction score of just 55 percent.
Although journey times weren't considered to be the worst in the UK, concerns over the road surface saw the A12's reputation dramatically tumble.
Just 34 percent were satisfied with the condition of the route which has been plagued by roadworks in recent years.
It means just 79 percent said they felt safe on the route while just 64 percent were satisfied with the quality of road markings.
Transport Focus got the opinions of drivers regularly using the A12 .
When asked why the route was a concern, one road user explained: "Because they have roadworks on there. They have been there for over a year now and don't seem to be doing much."
Another simply added: "Poor road quality and maintenance."
and was originally expected to end in February 2024.
However, because of "unexpected challenges" with further delays this Autumn.
Last month, said completing a stretch of the A12 between Junction 26 at Stanway and Junction 25 at Marks Tey would be delayed due to poor weather and ground conditions.
The delay is set to cause additional disruption to both locals and commuters with the work now tipped to end in mid-October.
Alex Robertson, Chief Executive at the independent watchdog Transport Focus said: "Drivers tell us that the maintenance of motorways and major roads - how most of us get around the country - is more important to them than building new roads.
"With road user perceptions of road surface quality deteriorating since 2022 and declining satisfaction with journey times, National Highways must continue to focus on delivering safe, smooth journeys."
