The Yorkshire Vet star 'devastated' after suffering heartbreaking loss

Viewers of The Yorkshire Vet were left heartbroken after a lamb tragically died during surgery in the latest episode.

The Channel 5 favourite returned with another instalment on Tuesday (October 15), delving into various agricultural issues. However, it was one particular case that brought veterinarian Rohin Aojula to despair.

In the episode, Rohin faced the challenge of operating on a newborn lamb named Hope, who had sustained a severe injury near her legs. Recognising the pain the procedure would cause, Rohin decided to administer an anaesthetic, deeming it too excruciating to proceed without it.

Tragically, the anaesthetic proved too strong for little Hope, and she died during the operation.

As he conducted the surgery, Rohin informed his team of the sad outcome, expressing his devastation by saying: "I'm absolutely gutted," reports .

Rohin later admitted he hadn't anticipated such a premature death but maintained that using the anaesthetic was the right call.

Reflecting on the loss later in the show, Rohin shared his sorrow, revealing: "It's so devastating as that was the first lamb I've lost under anaesthetic."

The episode took another sombre turn when Rohin visited the deceased lamb's mother, Gloria, who was also suffering from illness. With Gloria's condition causing concern for her ability to survive on the farm, her owners were understandably anxious about her future.

Thankfully, following Rohin's expert advice, she made a remarkable recovery and was back to her old self within two weeks. One of the farmers who owns Gloria expressed his joy, saying: "The great news is she's really rallied!"

Earlier this year, TV vet Rohin had to sedate an unwell pig. He warned the owner at the time: "Sedations within pigs, they're not the smoothest of sedations. I have even heard of pigs passing away with sedations, but we will do everything to make sure it goes smoothly."

In the episode, Rohin asked owner Libby to sit on Pablo, the pig's back, to ensure he didn't get up during the procedure. A trainee vet also joined Rohin for the job and sat on Pablo's back.

She joked: "Never experienced this before but first time for everything." The procedure was successful, with Rohin admitting it went as well as it could have done."

The Yorkshire Vet airs Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 5.
