Guwahati: In a meeting organised by the Jamiyat Ulama in Assam, its state chief Maulana Badruddin Ajmal addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding Waqf properties, accusing the government of obstructing the rightful return of these lands. Ajmal, a prominent political figure, claimed that around 9.7 lakh acres of government land in India are actually Waqf properties and should be returned to the Waqf board.Ajmal argued that this land, originally belonging to their forefathers, and who have donated lands to WAQF board, must be handed back to the Waqf and we don't want medical colleges, orphanages, or educational institutions. He stressed that these lands have deep historical and religious significance and should remain under Waqf control. In his speech, Ajmal was highly critical of the ruling BJP government, accusing it of creating obstacles in the process of restoring Waqf properties. He alleged that prominent landmarks, including Ambani’s house in Mumbai and even the Parliament building in New Delhi, sit on Waqf land and should be returned to their rightful owners.Ajmal stated that he would personally resolve the issue of Waqf lands and ensure that they are restored across the country. He also expressed concerns over the functioning of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) tasked with addressing the issue, claiming that the firm is not working effectively. The demand for the return of Waqf properties has been an ongoing issue, with Ajmal leading the charge for what he views as rightful restitution.
