Prayagraj: Samajwadi Party (SP) state president Shyam Lal Pal on Monday said the Election Commission should not harass people in the name of special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral roll.
Holding a meeting at SP district headquarters in the city, he advised party workers to be vigilant regarding the forms and documents required during the revision process and to ensure that all eligible names are included in the voters' list. Pal also accused the Election Commission of discrimination and carrying out actions like deleting votes at the behest of the BJP.
"Every citizen of the country has the right to vote, whether educated or uneducated. No one should be arbitrarily deprived of inclusion in the voter list on the pretext of birth certificates or other documents," he said. He demanded that during the voter revision programme, there should be a column for caste census.
