Kanpur: A spate of mixed reactions were posted across social media platforms following the announcement by US president Donald Trump that India and Pakistan had both agreed to a cease fire effective from 5 pm on Saturday. This cease fire was subsequently confirmed by both the external affairs ministries of India and Pakistan.
While some supported the move, most of the people expressed opposition, arguing that this was an appropriate time to teach a lesson to Pakistan and create a new geography in the world map. One commentator stated that the India's government was about to repeat the same mistake as done by the previous governments, alleging that Pakistan would soon resume sending terrorists into India to destabilise the country.
Any terrorist attack would give the opposition an opportunity to attack the government, and therefore, the Modi government should finish the job as it was the best opportunity for it, remarked a contributor. In another comment it was claimed that PM Modi had "showed back" after gaining an upper hand in the ongoing war.
Opinion was also voiced regarding the role of the US, with one comment stating that once again, the US has intervened and the Indian government accepted its proposal. The Ukrainian president was "much stronger than Modi" as he had refused US advice and continued to oppose Russia.
Concerns were also raised about civilian casualties and property loss in border villages due to shelling, questioning who would compensate the victims. The unresolved issue of terrorism was further highlighted, with another post equating Pakistan's army with terrorists, claiming that they would never change and warning of renewed terrorist activities in India. It was also stated that those responsible for the Pahalgam carnage were now "free to move."
