LUDHIANA: A gas leak triggered a fire in Samrat Colony, Giaspura, sparking panic in a residential area on Tuesday night.

The blaze engulfed four rooms, leaving at least seven people injured, including a 7-year-old girl.

The incident occurred due to the illegal refilling of LPG cylinders in a makeshift workshop. Eyewitnesses reported hearing screams from the affected house, prompting locals to rush to the scene.

Five people attempting to rescue the family were also injured. The victims, including Shivani (7) and Phoolmati (35), were rushed to nearby hospitals.

Phoolmati's husband, Daroga Prasad, said that the workshop's owner refilled small cylinders from larger ones in the adjacent room.

On the night of the incident, Phoolmati was cooking when gas began leaking from the workshop, causing a sudden fire.

Daroga Prasad's family, including his wife, daughter, and younger brother, Kripa Shankar, suffered severe burns.

Phoolmati's condition is critical, and she was referred to a specialised medical facility.
