Pan kiosk owner goes missing, found stoned to death in Wadi

Nagpur: A 55-year-old pan kiosk owner was found dead with his head smashed with a stone on Wednesday evening at a secluded place behind a factory in the Wadi area. The deceased was identified as Subhash Borkar, a resident of Dattawadi. Wadi police registered a case of murder and launched an investigation.

According to police, Borkar ran a pan kiosk on Khadgaon Road. On Tuesday at around 5pm, Borkar's son, Shramik, dropped off his father at the pan kiosk. At around 7pm, a labourer visited the pan kiosk and paid Rs700 in pending dues to Borkar. After that, at around 9pm, Borkar closed the shop and left the place. At around 10pm, Shramik called his father, but his mobile phone was switched off. Shramik and other family members later started searching for Borkar.

On Wednesday evening, a passer-by discovered a body with its head and face smashed at a secluded place in Wadi. The alerted the police control room. Wadi police carried out a spot panchnama and sent the body to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for post-mortem.

Cops identified the deceased as Borkar. Soon, his relatives were also informed, and they confirmed his identity. Till late night, police were in the process of identifying the killer and motive behind the murder. Sources said the murder could be a fallout of a dispute arising from the sale of illegal liquor.

Police have also deployed several teams and are scrutinising CCTV footage from nearby spots to identify the accused.
