MUMBAI: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has appointed Aarthi Subramanian (58) as its new COO, filling the position left vacant after N Ganapathy Subramaniam 's retirement in May 2024.
The appointment, effective from May 1, requires Aarthi to step down from her current position as chief digital officer (CDO) at Tata Sons and relinquish her directorships in various Tata Sons subsidiaries, including Tata Industries, Tata Capital, Infiniti Retail (Croma), Tata AIA Life Insurance, and Tata Electronics.
Aarthi, who holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from NIT Warangal and a master’s degree in engineering management from the University of Kansas in the US, started her career with TCS in 1989 and joined its board in 2015. In 2017, she was appointed CDO of Tata Sons, transitioning from an executive director of TCS to a non-executive director (NED) of the IT services company.
According to TCS policies, Aarthi received Rs 2.7 lakh as sitting fees in FY24, as NEDs employed full-time with other Tata companies cannot receive commissions. She currently owns 5,600 TCS shares, valued at about Rs 1.8 crore.
Following his retirement as TCS COO , Ganapathy, the elder brother of company chairman N Chandrasekaran, was appointed the chairman of Tata Communications.
In her new role, Aarthi will report directly to CEO and MD K Krithivasan (61). Additionally, TCS has named Mangesh Sathe, currently the head of strategy at Tata Sons, as its chief strategy officer.
