CBSE Result 2025: Important update for students, answer sheets to be provided before mark verification and re-evaluation

CBSE result 2025 : In a major change to its post-result grievance redressal mechanism, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has revised the sequence of steps students must follow to raise concerns regarding their Class X and Class XII results. According to the new guidelines, students will now be required to first obtain photocopies of their evaluated answer sheets before applying for verification of marks or re-evaluation.

This change, announced through an official notification dated May 2, 2025, aims to enhance transparency and empower students to make informed decisions. By allowing students to access their evaluated answer books first, CBSE intends to help them clearly understand the marking process and identify any discrepancies before initiating the formal verification or re-evaluation procedures.

Photocopy of evaluated answer book to be the first step
Previously, CBSE followed a linear and three-step grievance redressal system in the order of:
1) verification of marks,

2) obtaining a photocopy of the evaluated answer book, and
3) re-evaluation.
Under this structure, a student could only move to the next step after completing the previous one.

However, beginning with the 2025 board examination results, the revised sequence will be:
1) obtaining photocopy of the evaluated answer book, followed by
2) verification of marks and/or re-evaluation. This change enables students to view the answers and awarded marks, assess whether there are any errors such as unmarked answers or totaling mistakes, and then decide on further actions.

Greater clarity and autonomy for students
The CBSE stated that this decision will provide greater clarity to students by helping them view comments made by evaluators, understand the evaluation done, and check for any overlooked answers. Students can then make an informed choice on whether to proceed with just verification of marks (which checks for totaling errors and missed evaluations), or request a full re-evaluation of specific answers.

According to the Board, the revised system also allows students to apply for either verification of marks or re-evaluation, or both, depending on their assessment after receiving the photocopy. These steps are to be followed in due procedure, with detailed modalities expected to be announced once results are officially declared.

Detailed process to be released after results
The CBSE clarified that all guidelines related to timelines, fees, and the step-wise process for obtaining photocopies, verification of marks, and re-evaluation will be published once the Class X and XII results for 2025 are declared. The results are expected between May 7 and May 12, 2025.
