A while ago, Irrfan's wife Sutapa Sikdar had spoken about their son Babil and the pressure on him to live up to his father's legacy. She had said that he's depressed due to it and gave an example of Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan. She had said that comparing Abhishek with his father, a legend like Big B worked against him. Similar, comparing Babil with Irrfan is working against her son.
Now Babil has reacted to it. He clarified his mom's comment and said that it was misconstrued. He said, during a chat with News 18, "That was actually misconstrued. Some people got really worried for me because of that. There’s some problem in it and it’s not a genuine thing. I’m okay." However, one cannot deny the pressure on him. He further explained, "The pressure on me is insane but it’s also extremely important. After baba passed away, people started telling me, do you know who you are?"
However, he has a positive way of looking at things. He said, "It’s okay to be scared but you should do it. If you’re feeling a certain way and you’ve a way of expressing it, do it. I’m getting better at sitting with myself. Over time, I realised that how sometimes our self-worth gets lost and validation becomes more important. We give away our self-worth for validation and we end up hating ourselves. We deny this self-hatred and, in the process, become arrogant."
He added, "My adversities made me who I am. The way in which we navigate our adversities help us evolve. That’s why I say that the pressure is important and so is the way in which I respond to it. You cannot change it. Life will challenge you in multiple ways and from every angle but the way you react to it is in your control."
