Vivek Agnihotri reveals it was difficult to handle alcoholic Anurag Kashyap during 'Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal' shoot: 'Bahut sharab peeta tha toh usko time ka koi hisaab nahi tha'

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri recently revisited his working experience with director Anurag Kashyap during the production of 'Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal'. In a conversation, Agnihotri spoke about the challenges he faced while collaborating with Kashyap, particularly due to the latter’s drinking habits.



Vivek about Anurag's mental health


In an interview with Digital Commentary, the host asked about the recent controversy surrounding Anurag Kashyap’s remarks regarding Brahmins, in connection with the ongoing Phule movie row. Agnihotri stated that he does not know anything about Anurag’s mental health but shared an anecdote from their time working together.

“We were working on the film Goal together. He was the writer of the film. Saif Ali Khan and Priyanka Chopra were originally supposed to do it, but Saif had some personal issues at the time, so he left. Then we got John and Bipasha. Anurag uss time bahut sharab peeta tha toh usko time ka koi hisaab nahi tha (Anurag used to drink a lot at the time and had no sense of time),” he revealed.


Anurag brought Vikramaditya Motwane to the team

Agnihotri further shared how the dynamics of the project shifted when Kashyap introduced filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane to the team. He claimed that Kashyap wanted Vikramaditya to handle everything, and their creative vision was entirely different from what Vivek had envisioned.

As creative differences deepened, tensions escalated. Agnihotri recalled:

“Ultimately, we were at loggerheads. The production house had a word with Anurag… Anurag ko handle karna mushkil ho gaya (It became difficult to handle Anurag). Because only an alcoholic knows what an alcoholic goes through. It became a very big problem.”

'Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal', directed by Agnihotri, featured John Abraham, Bipasha Basu, Arshad Warsi, and Boman Irani in key roles.


Work front

Currently, Vivek Agnihotri is preparing for the release of 'The Delhi Files – Bengal Chapter', which stars veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty.

Meanwhile, Anurag Kashyap is set to appear as the antagonist in 'Dacoit: A Love Story,' alongside Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur.
