Saraswati Visarjan 2024: Significance

Saraswati Visarjan is one of the most significant day when devotees give farewell to the Goddess of wisdom, knowledge, learning and music. This day is celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm. The celebration involves various puja rituals and cultural practices. Visarjan means the departure of the deity and they do it on the day of Vijayadashami.

In Kerala and other states of South India, this festivals is celebrated as Vidhya Aarambham, when small children start their schooling for the first time on this sacred day as she is revered as the Goddess of wisdom and creativity, this day holds special significance. This day is considered as the most auspicious day to start learning anything. Some join their higher education on this day and some start learning new creative activities.

Saraswati Visarjan 2024: Puja Rituals


1. Wake up early in the morning on the day of Vijayadashami and take a holy bath.
2. Wear traditional clothes, men wear white kurta dhoti and women wear white saris with gold ornaments and adorn their forehead with vermillion.
3. They prepare special sweets for the bhog prasad.
4. Offer them to Goddess Saraswati before giving the farewell.
5. They carried out the procession and take the Saraswati Mata idol for the visarjan.
6. Before that, they offer prayers to Goddess Saraswati by performing various religious activities.
7. Devotees give farewell to the Goddess of wisdom with immense devotion and seek her blessings before immersion.
