Ilia Topuria , after a long wait, finally gets the title run within the lightweight division after the shocking results of UFC 315. While the fighter has been calling out the former lightweight champion Islam Makhachev ever since the move up from featherweight, however, the bout did not pan out as Belal Muhammad lost the welterweight title to Jack Della Maddalena, ultimately leading to Makhachev moving up the weight division. With Makhachev moving up the weight division, Topuria has been paired up against Charles Oliveira for the vacant lightweight title . While Topuria gears up for the upcoming bout, his brother, Aleksandre Topuria , who currently competes in the bantamweight division, has a different perspective on the entire shakeup.
Aleksandre Topuria wants his brother Ilia Topuria to eye for a third title after claiming and defending the lightweight championship beltWith an undefeated record of 16-0, Ilia Topuria is one of the finest fighters in the UFC, eyeing a second championship belt after claiming the featherweight title and successfully defending it. Even though the highly anticipated bout between Topuria and Islam Makhachev did didnot pan out, the Georgian fighter will now be seen clashing against Charles Oliveira for the vacant lightweight title.
The trend of going ahead for a two-division championship status is now taking over the UFC, as Makhachev too decided to move up the weight class for a second title in the welterweight division. However, the transition would not have turned into a reality if Belal Muhammad could successfully retain the title against Jack Della Maddalena.
While the shakeup is still in motion, Topuria’s brother, Aleksandre Topuria, who recently won his first bout in the UFC against Colby Thicknesse, has a different and more so, a more ambitious perspective for his brother. In a recent interview with Enrique Gimeno MMA, the bantamweight fighter forwarded his opinion on how his brother’ next two fight and the future should look like, “The perfect scenario would be for Ilia to win, for Islam to win in the welterweight division, and then for Ilia to fight for a third belt. Historic.”
Till date, no fighter in the history of UFC has won titles in three weight classes. With a look outside the UFC, the only fighter to have won titles across three divisions is Anatoly Malykhin, but the feat. was achieved within the ONE championship.

If Topuria secures the lightweight belt, defends it and moves up to the welterweight division, as stated by his brother, it would indeed be history created by El Matador within the UFC. For now, the fighter is focused on claiming the vacant lightweight belt.
