It was revealed a few days ago that the Dallas Cowboys traded for quarterback Joe Milton in order to solidify their backup spot behind Dak Prescott . Though Cowboys fans were impressed with this movie, legendary wide receiver Michael Irvin has issued a cautionary note. On a video shared on his YouTube channel, Irvin stated that if Prescott does not step it up for the 2025 season, he may lose his starting quarterback role to Milton.
Why Michael Irvin's warning to Dak Prescott makes sense after Cowboys' roster change
Needless to say, Prescott and Milton’s salaries are widely different. Prescott will reportedly make $60 million in 2025 as the NFL's highest-paid player. But Irvin shared, "Don't give this guy a chance, Dak... You better stay healthy, be ready, stay on the field. Remember, you make $60 million a year. This guy only makes $1 million. If you give him a chance on the field, it's going to get ugly.”
"Now remember, you're making $60m a year. This kid (is) making only $1m."
"If you give him a chance to get on that the field… it's going to be ugly."
Milton was drafted into the league last year and has already shown promise as he made his debut in the 2024 season finale against the Buffalo Bills, after relieving Drake Maye. Most experts agree with Irvin especially since last season, Prescott sustained a hamstring injury in Week 9, underwent surgery, and did not play again.
He has also faced injuries at other points in his career, playing only five games in 2020 and missing several weeks during the 2022 season.
