Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Tommy Pham missed Monday night’s game, that was played against the New York Mets because he was suspended for one game. Major League Baseball gave him a punishment and a fine on April 25 for his behavior toward fans during a game against the Los Angeles Angels.
Tommy Pham suspended for a gameThe issue took place when a fan touched him while he was chasing a ball near the corner. Tommy Pham had appealed the suspension, but it was not changed after a hearing. After the fan touched him, Pham responded with a rude gesture. The 37-year-old was playing in a game the Pirates won 3-0 over the Angels.

Pham, who played 79 games for the Mets in 2023, is a .331 career hitter with 10 home runs in 169 at-bats and 55 games at Citi Field.

Oneil Cruz out of starting lineupMeanwhile, Pirates’ center fielder Oneil Cruz is now out of the starting lineup for the second consecutive game after leaving Saturday's 11-inning loss to Atlanta Braves with lower back tightness. The team manager Don Kelly said:

"He's getting better. He's day to day. We'll see what his availability is tonight.”

Alexander Canario was traded from the New York Mets for cash on March 31. He started again in center field. The Pirates also brought back shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa from the injured list. In his first at-bat, he hit a home run, his first since last August. He had injured his hamstring.

Kelly further said:

"You guys see it every time he's out there -- the energy he brings, the defense, the contact ability, the way he can hit, He can do a lot of different things. He's a leader on the field for us, and it's good to have him back out there shortly."
Where is Paul Skenes’ spot in MLB?An analyst on the Foul Territory program explained Paul Skenes' position in Major League Baseball. He said:

His talent, plus what he's paid, I don't know if there's a value that can be defined. It's like the Mona Lisa right now. You have to allow him to get close to arbitration until he's doing something similar to a player of his caliber.”

"The problem is that, with four years of control over what he can bring to the mound, any MLB team, especially one with potential, is not in a position or willing to offer its assets, You (Pirates) need to get proven Major League talent in addition to prospects."
