A Reddit user who alleged that ChatGPT had assisted him in solving a five-year-old medical condition made his post go viral, with many people discussing the potential of artificial intelligence in today's healthcare. According to the man, the AI chatbot provided a solution to his temporomandibular joint (TMJ) clicking—a situation that had existed for years despite seeking medical advice.
ChatGPT helps man solve a long-lasting jaw problem, he claims
In his Reddit entry, the man described that he had been experiencing a recurring click of his jaw on the left side, which he blamed on an old boxing injury. Even after seeing medical experts—to include an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialist, two MRI scans (with contrast dye), and a referral to a maxillofacial specialist—no satisfactory solution was provided.
Frustrated by the slow progress, he sought guidance from ChatGPT. Much to his surprise, the chatbot gave a thorough explanation and a possible reason for the condition, proposing the jaw disc could be displaced by a small amount but remain mobile. The chatbot also suggested a self-treatment method: gradually opening the mouth while keeping the tongue pushed against the roof of the mouth and observing for symmetry.
Reddit user claims instant relief after following ChatGPT's jaw treatment advice
Following the recommendation of the chatbot, the user said the results were instant and effective.
"Five years of clicking jaw (TMJ), ChatGPT fixed it in 60 seconds," he posted, attributing the AI for providing a solution where traditional medicine had failed.
He further said he will be reporting the outcome to the specialist he had been referred to, even though he was already feeling relief.
Social media sparks debate over AI's role in healthcare
The post soon went viral on social media, sparking a wider debate on the potential and risks of AI in medicine. Other users posted similar accounts, thanking AI tools such as ChatGPT and Claude for explaining or even fixing long-standing health issues.
One user replied: "You just fixed me. No joke. Thanks a bunch."
Another posted: "I learned more about my sleeping problems in 15 minutes with GPT than years of other research and a decade of doctor visits."
A third had a compelling testimonial: "Same. I was sick for years. MRI. Experts, etc. presented Claude with my symptoms and it instructed me to have three certain tests conducted. Two of three turned out positive. Now I have the medicine I must take in order to be normal again. Doctors and mankind in general are very unreliable."
