Perplexity AI CEO Arvind Srinivas has praised Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis . In a video shared on X (earlier Twitter), Srinivas called Hassabis a ‘genius’ and noted that Hassabis should receive all possible resources to realise his AI-driven vision. In the video, Hassabis talked about speeding up drug discovery from a decade‑long, multi‑billion‑dollar process to just weeks, drawing a parallel to how AI had already transformed protein‑structure prediction. He argued this shift “would revolutionise human health,” and envisioned that AI might “cure all disease” within the next decade, asking rhetorically, “I don’t see, why not?”
Sharing the video, Srinivas wrote: “Demis is a genius and he should be given all resources in the world to make this happen.”
In the video, Hassabis said: “10 years and billions of dollars to design just one drug. We could maybe reduce that down from years to, maybe months, or maybe even weeks…that’s also what people used to think about protein structures. It would revolutionise human health, and I think one day maybe we can cure all diseases with the help of AI."
When the interviews asks, “the end of disease?” Hassabis replies: “I think that’s within reach, maybe within the next decade or so. I don't see, why not?”
Recently, Hassabis featured on the Time Magazine cover, which was also celebrated by Google CEO Sundar Pichai
What Google CEO Sundar Pichai said about Demis Hassabis featuring on the Time Magazine cover
Google CEO Sundar Pichai offered his congratulations to Hassabis after he shared news of his inclusion on the 2025 TIME 100 list and cover. Hassabis took to X to write, “Honoured to be on the #TIME100 list and cover – and congratulations to all the other people featured. Thank you to the brilliant Jennifer Doudna for the lovely writeup.”
Hassabis has been recognised for his work in deep reinforcement learning and AlphaFold’s breakthroughs in protein structure prediction , earning him a place among this year’s most influential figures.
In response to Hassabis’s post, Pichai simply commented, “Congrats!”
