Reacting to Israel ’s killing of Hamas military chief Yahya Sinwar, Lebanon ’s ambassador to India Rabie Narsh quoted the words of Mahatma Gandhi , “You can kill a revolutionary, but you cannot kill the revolution.” Lebanon has been facing the brunt of the ongoing Israeli military operation against Hezbollah . As of Oct 15, the total number of attacks carried out by Israeli forces in Lebanon was 10,012, including airstrikes with 2,000 pound bombs. The attacks have claimed more than 2,350 Lebanese lives and displaced more than 188,652 people.

No secret Hezbollah getting weapons, money from Iran: Lebanese Ambassador to India Rabie Narsh to TOI

Israel aims to push back Hezbollah from its northern border, since the Shia militia group had been firing rockets into northern Israel from Oct 8 last year in solidarity with Hamas in Gaza. The Hezbollah strikes had forced the evacuation of tens of thousands of Israelis from their homes. But Narsh says US can easily stop the war. “Washington can stop Netanyahu if it wants. After all, he is using American weapons to attack Lebanon.”

Asked about the position of Arab nations in the ongoing conflict, Narsh replied, “Arab countries, including Lebanon, have always pitched for peace and advocate the Two State Solution to the Palestine issue. In fact, the Two State Solution is supported by almost the entire international community. Only Israel is opposed to it.”

Asked by this reporter if Hezbollah was fighting Israel on behalf of Lebanon or Iran, Narsh said, “It’s no secret that Hezbollah is getting its weapons, training and money from Iran. But any resistance group needs sustenance and support. Hezbollah is Lebanese, they are fighting on Lebanese territory against the Israeli occupation and defending Lebanese homes.”

Narsh also asserted that it is the people of Lebanon that are resisting Israel and that Hezbollah was created in 1985 as a reaction to the occupation of Lebanon by Israel. He further stressed that Israel continues to occupy territories like Shebaa Farms which is claimed by Lebanon.

“India, as a Global South leader, should put pressure on Netanyahu to end this conflict. Israel is now attacking UN peacekeepers’ positions in Lebanon. Remember, there are 800 Indian troops as part of this peacekeeping mission,” Narsh added.
